TMC West Bengal President Chandrima Bhattacharya resigns from all posts in latest blow to Mamata Banerjee

In yet another blow to Mamata Banerjee, her close aide and Trinamool Congress West Bengal president Chandrima Bhattacharya has tendered her resignation from all party posts, just a month after her appointment.

“I hereby tender my resignation from the post of the state president of All India Trinamool Congress which had been conferred on me in the meeting at Kalighat on June 3. I also hereby resign from all other posts which I hold at present,” Bhattacharya wrote in her resignation letter.

Addressing Mamata Banerjee as “former chairperson of the TMC, Bhattacharya said that she withdrew herself as the authorised signatory of TMC and all other related organisations in respect of the accounts maintained in various banks as well as the authorised person before the Election Commission of India.

She said that she was hurt after Mamata Banerjee accused her of handing over the TMC Bhavan to Ritabrata Banerjee-led rebel faction.

“I have no allegations against anyone. I have a grievance against myself that I may have not been able to keep the trust. I was told by party supremo Mamata Banerjee that I had handed over the TMC Bhavan. I am hurt. Who am I to hand over the Bhavan?” Bhattacharya said.

The development comes a day after the rebel faction took possession the party’s office in Kolkata, claiming that they are the real Trinamool Congress.

The rebels also changed the locks of the party office and hung a poster recognising Arup Roy as the party chief instead of Mamata Banerjee.

Last month, the Ritabrata Banerjee-led faction had removed former Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as the Chairperson of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) and named Arup Roy as the new party chief.

Abhishek Banerjee, who was the second-in-command, was also “suspended” from the party.

The rebels announced the formation of a parallel organisational structure – a 30-member National Working Committee – to look after the affairs of what they claimed is the “real Trinamool Congress.”
